Bowdoinham Dance on 11-21-98 Yow! |
Welcome! We hold a contradance on the 3rd Saturday every month at the Bowdoinham Town Hall [directions] in Bowdoinham, Maine. Some say its the center of the dancing universe; we simply thinks it's one of the nicest dance halls in New England. There's no water so you'll want to bring your own, and the 'facility' is an indoor one holer (TP provided). Wicked quaint, but we love it and you will, too. We'd love to see you at our dance in Bowdoinham or any of our other scheduled appearances real soon.

For those who enjoy scando and cajun couples dancing we now offer a 30-45 minute session before each 3rd Saturday contradance at Bowdoinham. Pam has her hardanger fiddle all tuned up and Jim has the silvery keys of his cajun squeeze box gleaming in anticipation of seeing you turning through a hambo and two stepping into the evening. Sorry, no gumbo or lutefisk, just plenty of good music and cheer! Who knows, you might even hear the rare and elusive cajunavian yell "AH-EEEE-YOU BETCHA!" echoing over the Cathance River. See you there....

Family Dance on 11-21-98 |
The Merrymeeting Bay Communities Family Contradance got off to a GREAT start in November '98. We're excited to add a family dance to our schedule and look forward to building a community of new dancers among families. All the dances are taught, so no experience is required. Knowing right from left is about all you need to get started. Guest musicians are always welcomed and we look forward to eventually having the young musicians play so we can dance, too! So all you kids get mom, dad, and the grandparents and we'll see you next month at the dance!

FROM I-95: Follow I-95 to the Bowdoin-Bowdoinham exit, head EAST off the ramp. You are on Rt125/138--proceed into town staying on 125 (138 shortly splits off to left). Look for a church on your right--turn RIGHT at the church onto School St. The Town Hall is the white building at the crest of the hill. Please avoid parking on the neighbors' drives. From the WEST: aim for the Atlantic Ocean and just before you hit the beach (look out for tourists) hang a left onto I-95 at about Boston, MA or maybe Portsmouth, NH, and then head north. At Portland, MAINE, get off onto I-295 and continue northbound...it will remerge with I-95 just north of Portland. Go about 35 miles and take the Bowdoin-Bowdoinham exit. At the bottom of the ramp turn RIGHT and proceed about 1.5-2 miles into town. The second road on the right is School Street (church on the right corner)--turn right. The Town Hall is up a block at the crest of the hill. Please do not park in or block the driveways of the neighbors.

From the EAST: Swim like mad for shore, or take the ferry, and hitch a ride when you get onshore. Now, the direction you need to go depends on where you make landfall. Ask the first person you see if this is CANADA or the USA. If CANADA, first make sure it's the mainland, then head southward (bring a passport...). Find I-95 near the top of Maine someplace and continue southbound. At about Bangor start fishin' around for the 35 cent toll you'll need in an hour. Just south of Augusta, MAINE, you'll take the Brunswick-Freeport exit off the turnpike and onto I-95. Here is where you need the toll. Proceed southbound and take the Bowdoin-Bowdoinham exit. At the bottom of the ramp turn LEFT and proceed about 1.5-2 miles into town. The second road on the right is School Street (church on the right corner)--turn right. The Town Hall is up a block at the crest of the hill. Please do not park in or block the driveways of the neighbors. NOW, if you make landfall in downeast Maine somewhere, get out your Maine Gazetteer and, well, good luck.

From the SOUTH: Find a way to get onto I-95 headed north bound (a car is perfect!). If you are coming from out of state, do stop and eat and rest along the way.
